Description• Biology and sustainable management of invasive alien insects in agricultural ecosystems. Investigations on the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug Halyomorpha halys: biology, ecology, biological control and sustainable management strategies. • Valorization of organic substrates using insects, in the circular economy perspective. In particular, use of the black soldier fly Hermetia illucens for the valorization of byproducts and waste of the agro-food chains to obtain compounds useful in agriculture and in the feed/food industry. • Forensic entomology consultancy services and innovative management strategies for stored products and wood pests (xylophagous insects) in facilities for food production and storage, cultural heritage and urban environments.

Research Lines Agrifood and Environment

Methodologies • Insect rearing (different species: Halyomorpha halys, Hermetia illucens, Lepidopteran and Coleopteran stored product pests). • Different types of bioassays for insects: e.g. to evaluate the effects of chemical and physical stimuli on different biological parameters; behavioural bioassays, Life table studies, test with entomopathogens, etc. • Field surveys using different techniques for studies on ecology and sustainable management strategies
