Lab. nameCrop Production
Principal Investigator Enrico Francia
ComponentsEnrico Francia  (Principal Investigator )
DescriptionThe Group conducts research on both crop and model plants to improve their productivity and end-use quality. Genomic research focuses on the biological mechanisms limiting crop production under biotic and abiotic stress conditions in target crop species: barley, tomato and rice. A first Italian Brachypodium genomics platform established for B. distachyon, the new model plant for Triticeae, enables research on identification and characterization of conserved orthologous markers between barley and Brachypodium. Functional genomics of plant-pathogen interactions regards transcriptional profiling of tomato and Brachypodium in response to the fungal pathogens. The Group conducts as well research on agronomic and physiological management of food and biomass crops in conventional and low input environments. As a part of the Regional High Technology Network (HTN), the Crop Production group deals with technology transfer to Seed Companies (marker Assisted Selection), moreover gives a contribution to the Interdepartmental Centre for Genomic Researchof UNIMORE.
