The Department of Life Sciences (DSV) at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia is committed to fostering cultural, social, and economic development at both regional and the national levels. This purpose is achieved through the advancement and dissemination of scientific knowledge, student education, and the establishment of robust connections with civil society and the local community across all areas of life sciences (agro-food, biological, biotechnological, and pharmaceutical).
Department of Life Sciences (DSV) aims to respond with responsibility, scientific rigor, and innovation to the challenges related to the educational and scientific fields related to life sciences. Our Mission articulated in three fundamental dimensions: education, research, and third mission.
Research: The DSV is a community of researchers commited to studying and understanding living organisms at all levels of complexity and organization, from molecules to ecosystems. They leverage their expertise to develop innovative solutions aimed at improving human health, managing and conserving biodiversity, enhancing the agro-food system, promoting and safeguarding the environment, all within a framework of sustainable development.
Education: The DSV is an educational environment that encourages and nurtures the development of independent scientific thinking through a wide range of teaching activities across undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs. Our goal is to educate and shape new generations of responsible citizens by providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and apply concepts in the agri-food, biological, biotechnological, and pharmaceutical fields.
Third Mission: The DSV collaborates with other scientific communities, businesses, and local stakeholders to apply life sciences to societal needs by sharing knowledge and discoveries.
