The Department of Life Sciences (DSV) catalyzes and concentrates educational, research, and knowledge dissemination activities across various fields of Life Sciences, organized into four main scientific and educational areas: Agro-Food Sciences, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Within the DSV, research takes place in a dynamic and international context, utilizing modern technologies and equipment, and is supported by numerous public and private funding sources, both national and international. On average, more than 250 articles indexed by Scopus/WoS are published annually in prestigious international journals, documenting the productive research activities of the DSV.

The quality of research at the DSV, in terms of both project planning and productivity and infrastructure, is monitored based on ministerial guidelines inspired by Research Quality Assessment. This involves periodic evaluation of researchers' results using quantitative indicators and documentary evidence. The monitoring actions of the DSV Research Committee provide departmental bodies with the necessary information to develop a research quality policy aimed at achieving improvement goals that align with the department’s specific needs and the objectives of the University Strategic Plan.
