Third Mission and Impact on Society

The Third Mission (TM) facilitates the transfer and application of skills and experiences from research laboratories to society, promoting the dissemination of knowledge produced by the University in the local area. To this end, the Third Mission of the Department of Life Sciences (DSV) encompasses numerous activities that, by fostering innovation dissemination and knowledge access, contribute to the social and cultural well-being of individuals, as well as to the economic development of the communities involved. This is achieved thanks to the strong social and territorial roots that characterize the activities of DSV faculty and researchers. Additionally, the departmental TM activities aim to encourage dialogue, exchange, and mutual development between the Department’s staff and stakeholders to build a knowledge-based society.

Since 2015, the DSV has had an active commission (CTM) dedicated to the coordination, monitoring, and inventory of Third Mission activities, evaluating their impact at regional, national, and international levels, and making proposals in agreement with the Department's Board and/or Council.
