The Department of Life Sciences is spread across various facilities, active both at the Modena and Reggio Emilia campuses, where laboratories, research centers, and equipment dedicated to the development of specific research themes are located according to different scientific-disciplinary competences.
In addition to historical facilities, there are modern and technologically advanced structures, such as the Center for Regenerative Medicine and the scientific-educational hub on Via Campi.
The Department of Life Sciences constitutes a multidisciplinary, innovative, and stimulating environment where more than 170 permanent staff members (faculty and technical-administrative staff) work, alongside several dozen non-permanent staff (contract employees, research fellows, PhD students, trainees, scholarship holders, frequent graduates, undergraduates, etc.).
The Department hosts accredited and certified facilities, serves as the administrative headquarters for three Interdepartmental Centers, including two technology parks, and, in line with the policy directions of the Emilia-Romagna Region, has promoted the creation of several spin-off companies. These spin-offs represent a concrete example of integration between university and industry in a society that places particular emphasis on innovation and knowledge for sustainable development.
